Family Weekend

This weekend, my family came into town for "family weekend". I didn't get anything done because they were clinging to me like children. They were totally helpless and couldn't do anything by themselves. Not to say that I didn't want them here, but I missed a couple sorority events and didn't have time to do homework or study. It looks like I'll probably be up all night writing the essay for engr103. Why? All because my family wanted to go to XXX (root beer shop, not porn shop!) but didn't know how to get there. Or because they signed up for a tour at Armstrong, but didn't know how to get there. Or because they're staying on campus, but can never seem to find out how to get there. So, in short, I'm now a professional Purdue tour guide, and I've mastered driving on campus. (I won't let my parents drive because they don't seem to understand that college kids don't give a crap about jaywalking right in front of cars.) On top of this, my parents don't have a GPS (or a GPS enabled cell-phone), and even if they did, they wouldn't know how to use it. And, judging from the past, asking them use a campus map is like trying to ask me to jump off a bridge. So now, my laundry is piled high (along with my homework), and the parents are still here. At least they'll probably take me to Target and TJ Maxx later, and they've experienced the disgustingness that is my roommate (so now they actually believe my emotional breakdowns that regard her biohazardous material that she leaves, um, EVERYWHERE.) Anyways, I hope you have a nice weekend, and if I'm a total jerk to you tomorrow, it's probably because I haven't gotten any sleep.

I too was really helpless the first day I got here. All messed up with the routes. Its not your parents fault lol. Did you drive here? I'm jealous! I wanna drive toooooo ! Hopefully I'll be able to do that soon.

  3. I really feel for you, but on the bright side, this was a halerious post! I can't tell you how many times visiting my family has felt like equal doses of intense stress and fun. Family is exhausting~ if only we didn't need them so bad!

  4. My parents were out of town so I did not have the luxury of being annoyed by them, they would have probably been just and helpless as you described your parents. The first day when they dropped me off I ended up seeing them a few minutes later, still trying to get to their car, so I walked them to the parking garage. But my girlfriends parents on the other hand did come in to town so we were escorting them around all weekend. They seemed to be able to handle the campus pretty well though so thank god for that or I probably would have had a similar weekend.
