Africa

Africa consists of many resources like mineral ores, petroleum, and arable land but it seems like they are not utilized. Based off one website, there are many foreign countries in Africa "helping" the poor and basically taking these resources free of charge. Africa depends on the West to utilize the resources, but the sad thing is that they take advantage of of the continent and basically steal all the resources. An example is the selling of cocoa beans in the Ivory Coast. They are sold real cheap to the West and then sold expensive to the people in the Ivory Coast. If this system changes, resources can be utilized correctly.

Next is the education and agriculture in Africa. Apparently, the government in Africa do not put much effort into education and agriculture and only care about themselves. If this is true and if the government decided to change its ways of running a country, engineering solutions might work, and resources can be utilized. When it comes to massive investment in foreign aid, all the money does not go to the poor people. Transportation, feeding and other expenses cut into the donations that are given.

  1. So this post is kind of messed up, because it is white writing highlighted in white. You fix it (if you want) or leave it (it doesn't matter). If you just highlight it you can read it. I am commenting on it anyways, because I need blog points. Your information on Africa is incredibly interesting. It is a great and unique point that are other countries are taking advantage of Africa, because this is true. They desperately need our help and all be do is exploit them. This is completely improper behavior. Education, I feel is key to this relationship. If they are more knowledgeable about the situation, then they would know how to handle it. Agriculture would also be able to grow if Africa could handle these issues.

  2. As you noted, the land seems one of major problems in Africa, because most lands are not utilized and there are rare rainfalls. Africa’s most natural resources are “stolen” by European and American companies leaving nothing to the African citizens. Furthermore, instead of investing on agriculture and education, the governments in Africa spend money on weapons.(engr 103)

  3. It is true that despite having a large amount of resources, Africa is still one of the poorest regions on Earth. According to WIkipedia (I apologize for the lack of a better source, but then again its just a comment), some 380 million people live on less than 70 cents a day. That's how bad poverty is in this region.
The sector from which most Africa's income comes from is Agriculture. This shows that most Africans depend a lot on agriculture. And because of western company utilize their lands and labor at rock bottom prices, Africans, especially farmers, are finding it hard to earn a living.
In light of these problems, organisations like the COFTA or cooperation for Fair Trade in Africa have been created to get Africa out of its current situation.
So basically what they do is try to empower farmers by trying to give a bigger share of the profits that come from the selling of their products.
This might just be one of the solutions towards helping Africa fight poverty
