To sum up, the reading assignment talks describes how the Brazilians government had managed to obtain an overall electrification rate of about 98.7 percent.
Now how can limited resources affect energy policies in countries? First of all, it is important to note that limited resource definitely has an impact on energy policies. For example in India, the cost of fuel and the need for more sustainable energy solutions has lead the Indian government to focus on hydro electrical solutions.
Now how do limited resources really influence policies? Well for starters, every country in the world needs energy not only to survive but to be competitive in today’s globalized economy. This leads governments to search for cheap and efficient ways for generating power. This is especially true in developing countries where governments usually lack funding. For example due to hiking fuel prices, and due to the fact that a substantial amount of its electricity came from Diesel generator, the Cambodian resorted to establish a grid linking the neighbouring Vietnamese power grid with its own.
So basically, limited resources lead government to find better solutions.
It is true that limited resources influence policies. Not every country has access to energy and therefore finds ways of having access to it. Taking the example of India, in India there is no access to electricity in the rural areas and therefore the government works on its policies accordingly. It is now working on the solar energy set ups in the rural areas to make electricity accessible to all.

I like your idea that "limited resources lead government to find better solutions" and " limited resources affect energy policies in countries". For most countries, the lack of natural energy is a serious problem that limit the develop of the countries. Therefore, government needs to find out a way to solve this problem. Taking the example of China, the government made the policies that transmission natural energy from west inland to east coast. The government policies must base on the situation of the country and use the natural energy efficiently.(ENGR 103)
ReplyDeleteIn general I really like your post because it is a little deep and briefly explains the situation. I is very true that policies are affected by resource availability, and I like your example with India, because it does not only happen in Latin America. Moreover your last sentence is very useful: "So basically, limited resources lead government to find better solutions." to cite one more example from the IEA Brazil has found its way to generate sustainable energy with its available resources such as biodiesel, or hydropower, which are indeed good solutions, but could have never emerged without the government's need to provide energy. ReplyDeleteYour point about limited resource caught my attention. The developing countries with lack of fund tend to apply the most affordable solution. Another thing you mentioned was that countries need energy not just for its population, but to be more competitive among other countries. As you wrote at the beginning, Brazil’s electrification rate is 98.7 percent. It shows Brazil as competitive country.
