Living overseas and on a military base has taught me many things so far in life. Personally, I have no problem with a person who is diverse, I actually have more friends who are multicultural. I believe that we are all one and all have a purpose in life. Racism was always roaming around where I lived, because some people were just not used to being around such a diverse community.
Over time, I learned that people actually became to love the diversity. Its funny because some people who stated that they hated living overseas and hated being around many Asians and African Americans cried when they had to move, or to this day still say that they miss being overseas.
I believe that racism will never go away because some people are too stubborn or they don't have the chance to experience a diverse culture. Once a person experiences it, you will easily notice that they love it and would do anything to go back.
I agree with all of what was written on the article.
Living oversea is a good experience. When I decided to study abroad, my parents were worried about whether I would be used to the life in a foreign country. Even in the last minute before I checked-in, my mum still asked me to be careful of myself. The life in America is not the same as I thought. America is a diverse country and I can see students coming from all over the world. It's good to talk with them, although sometimes the communication is not fluent. I think study abroad and living oversea are great challenges to all people. But I think people can find many new and interesting things when they are in the foreign country. (ENGR 103)
ReplyDeleteI think that living in diversity is a necessity. We need to constantly broaden our knowledge on cultures that are totally unknown to us. One day I really would like to travel the world. I would especially like to travel to Africa, a continent that I know nothing about; and the Middle East. Maybe one day, I’ll have the chance to live and work in a place that is culturally diverse in which I would learn something new from a cultural point of view or maybe in a place which would be completely unknown to me. Best case scenario, I’ll have the chance to have a job which will take to different parts of the world.
ReplyDeleteAs for racism, I think there’s going to be a minority who will be racist. The challenge here it to make them realize that as human beings we are the same. They need to expose, just as we are here at Purdue, to diverse cultures

ReplyDeleteAmon, I do also think that living in diversity is a necessity. Its a whole new world when you experience a different culture that is unknown. Its an addiction I think, because you keep wanting to learn more and more and travel more and more. I would love to do that but I'm not made of money... I've had many experiences of people who use to be racist and then exposed and turned out to love it. (Engr103)
