I found this article really interesting. I was so much intrigued that I even forgot that I have a chemistry exam exam on monday lol.
So to begin with, I must say the best part of the reading was the first page which talks about the experience of the author. I personally feel that your success is never influenced by the social barriers. It is your internal talents that make you achieve something. I am from India and have traveled abroad to US for my studies. Making this study abroad decision wasn't easy for me and my family. We were surrounded by many social norms, but we never let those norms come out as a barrier for us. I always knew and still know what my goal is.
Frankly, its been more than a month here now and I have never felt neglected.
I am impressed by the author's experience and his determination, as to how he sill went on even when he was facing discrimination at the hospital he worked and college he went to.

ReplyDeleteYou made an important decision to go abroad despite social barriers. Our education is worth of leaving home country despite how hard it is. When I was going to the U.S., I was little worried about how people there would treat me. Would they treat me as I am from inferior culture? But these worries was groundless. (engr103)
ReplyDeleteGreat job breaking free from those social barriers. When I decided to come to the U.S. I also was wondering how I would fit in a new environment. I was thinking that I would find it very difficult to adjust. In hindsight, I think this was my barrier: limited perception. I wasn’t thinking that I would make friend very easily and be able to balance a social life with academic work.

As far as being an international student, this is something awesome you are doing going to school in a different country. I would say that it is definitely something important you are doing is focusing on your studies. That will help a lot and once all of that is order, then everything else will fall into place. Getiing ready and going to college is hard, let alone going half way across the country. I have to say, personally, you seem to be adjusting incredibly well and don’t get down ever your doing great. There are barriers that appear to everyone and I feel the key is not to let it get to you and just be who you are. You guys made a great choice with Purdue University. I know I have been to other campuses in the U.S. that do not have the welcoming feel that Purdue University has. I am not trying to be negative, but these campuses are not as welcoming international or non-international student, they don’t have the feeling that Purdue University. I think that we all made a great choice at Purdue University. I, personally, really like to smile and I feel that it is a great place to be if you like to do so. (engr 103)
