Mini-case 1.1
This passage clearly indicates that prior knowledge is needed when traveling to a new area. I don't even know why some people try to go somewhere without knowing a little of the native language or any knowledge about the area. It must of been very frustrating not knowing that the city and country and have the same exact name. I don't like how some people think that speaking slower would solve the problem of a language gap. It must of been very frustrating for the two and the farmer. I know that with prior knowledge and knowing some of the language would be such a big help for any person traveling to a new place.

I agree with you on that people traveling to foreign country, should know a few information about that country: language, culture, etc. I also do not understand why these two people drove so far knowing no language, no locality. They even did not take a map or GPS navigator. )
ReplyDeleteBut I disagree with your second point of view. Speaking slowly does really help. It may seem frustrating to native speakers, but this is sometimes the only way to communicate with foreigners. It takes them for a while to learn the language, so they can easily understand and speak. From my own experience, I often ask people to repeat or speak slowly if I don’t understand at once. (engr103)
Yeah I also agree with the fact that before going to experience a country we have to do a minimum of research. For example, you can't go to Cambodia without knowing that there are ancient ruins known as "Angkor Wat" or without knowing that a genocide took place on its soil.
